A face in the crowd
Crowdfunding seems to be the way to go these days for quick fundraising with a far reach. The internet and social media make spreading the word instantaneous. Gofundme and other sites readily populate Facebook newsfeed, and it seems like there is all the money in the world out there if you know how to ask.
The Helping House has two fundraisers. Feet-on-the-ground, me-in-your-office kind of fundraising - our 5k/10k and Family Kite Fest. So when the Nacogdoches Area United Way hatched this crowdfunding plan, I wasn't sure. Would our sponsors feel like this was impersonal? I never want that.
What this does do is give individuals a way to make their $5 matter. It is a way for someone to choose water instead of Coke at lunch, and donate the difference. It is a way for many small gifts to make one large gift. And we are in need of that gift. It is coincidental that our crowdfunding campaign is being used to help us with our own growing crowd! Our building is beautiful, but the walls are straining with the kids we serve and the staff we hire.
The truth is, crowdfunding can work for The Helping House. We can join together to make a difference and be the piece that matters to these kids.
If you are interested in helping us, click this link. Put in your donation and choose "The Helping House" from the drop down menu. If we raise the most money by next Tuesday, August 11th, we will win the proceeds from the Nacogdoches Area United Way Kick Off Event, which will go toward our new building fund. Thanks for being true friends of The Helping House!
