The Helping House offers a full-time or part-time option for families who desire a more structured and intensive therapy approach for their child. We have school Monday through Friday from 8 to 2.
Each child has an individual education plan, as prepared collaboratively by parents, teachers, and other therapists.
Their day consists of many diverse activities:
The goal of our day program is to prepare these children to return to regular school and to be mainstreamed to the best of their ability. We focus initially on behaviors and life skills that will help facilitate successful inclusion. These things include attention to task, response to directives, self-direction, independence, and even feeding and toileting.
Traditional research-based therapies are used in combination at The Helping House. These include Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Play Therapy, and the TEACCH (Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication-handicapped CHildren) method. Sensory integration techniques are incorporated into each child’s daily schedule as needed. Video modeling, social skill instruction, and community outings are also used to further equip our students with functional living skills.
